Sherwood House at Sugar Maples Center for Creative Arts

Sherwood House is a modest and comfortable inn with accommodations for festival participants and attendees. Every room features an ensuite bathroom. There is a fully equipped kitchen and community spaces such as a dining and extensive wraparound porch.

($100 per room for Verbatim attendees)

Transportation

The best way to get to Verbatim is by car. There is no public transportation within walking distance to the venue. If you take the train or bus, arrange transportation from the station beforehand. Note that there are no rideshare services in Windham or Maplecrest. Local cab services are available.

Bus: There is a Trailways bus that runs daily from NYC to Windham, which is about 5 miles from the venue. 

Train: There are multiple Amtrak trains a day from NYC to Hudson, which is about 30 miles from the venue.

Taxi: Dawn 2 Dusk is a local taxi service that can take you from the Windham bus stop to Sugar Maples Center for Creative Arts. Advance booking is strongly advised.

Places to eat  

- Haymarket: A coffee shop with a breakfast / lunch menu very close to the venue.

- Mama's Boy: Great sandwiches and ice cream.

- Chicken Run: Cute barbecue place with cornhole on the Batavia Kill creek. 

- Jimmy O'Connors: Charming old school Catskills tavern with bar food.  

- See & Be Kitchen: Awesome breakfast and lunch (20 minutes from venue).

- Citgo / Tamanna: Gas station that serves great affordable Indian food and kebab wraps (20 minutes from venue).

- Prattsville Tavern: Good bar food, old school Harley Davidson vibe (20 minutes from venue).

- Taphouse Grille Windham: Bar food with tap beer and full bar.

- The Windham Local Public House: Cafe serving coffee, beer, wine, and food throughout the day.

**Note that everything closes early in the Catskills, even dinner places and bars

Nature

-CD Lane Park: Lovely lake very close to the venue with a nice hike encircling the water, and mountain views. Also a great place to swim, though we don't recommend the designated swimming area.  

-Colgate Lake: Beautiful spot and great for swimming, but not as close as CD Lane Park. It will also be busier.

-Windham Path: Scenic walk with mountain views. Good for young children because it's easy, flat, and stroller accessible.

-Pratt Rock + Schoharie Creek swimming: About 20min from the venue is the town of Prattsville, which includes a stunning hike (Pratt Rock) and a fantastic swimming hole directly across the road from Pratt Rock (you will see it).

Miscellaneous

- Prattsville Art Center: A community art space run by artist and NYU professor, Nancy Barton. The art center has a donation-based coffee shop and sound installations. We can't recommend it enough.

-JJF Farm: Scenic grass fed beef farm with farm store, nestled in the mountains.

-Piano Performance Museum: Cool spot with all sorts of historic instruments, very close to the venue. By appointment only.

- Windham Mini Golf: This place is great because it’s right along the Batavia Kill creek and is part of a kooky multi-purpose building with an ice cream shop and a movie theater.

- East Durham Flea Market: Gigantic vintage and antiques warehouse.  

- Sunday Irish Music Circle at Shamrock Tavern: This traditional Irish music gathering in the “Irish Alps” has happened every Sunday for decades and you can feel the history. Very homey and old school. Watch videos of the music on their Facebook page.
